RVM Commands

Hello, Folks. Welcome to my blog on RVM Commands.

Please read my blog https://sufinhacks.wordpress.com/2017/04/19/ruby-installation-using-rvm/ for Ruby Installation instructions.

Following are some commonly used rvm commands:

Install a Ruby Version

rvm install version-number
Eg: rvm install 2.3.3

Use a Ruby Version

You may have multiple versions of ruby installed using rvm. You may need to switch between ruby versions when working on multiple projects

 rvm use version-number
 Eg: rvm use 2.3.3

Create a gemset

It is a good practice to use different gemsets for different projects. Gemsets are nothing but independent containers that you can use to keep gems separate from each other.

rvm gemset create gemset_name
Eg: rvm gemset create my_gemset

The above command will create a gemset named my_gemset for the current ruby version. That is if you are using ruby 2.3.3 as the current ruby version, then my_gemset will be created for the ruby version 2.3.3

Delete a Ruby Gemset

 rvm gemset delete gemset_name
 Eg: rvm gemset delete my_gemset

Delete a Ruby Version

 rvm remove version-number
 Eg: rvm remove 2.3.3
